Bruising and swelling are a part of the recovery process. Your surgeon's techniques may impact bruising. At our office, patients experience minimal bruising due to Dr. Kassir's techniques and specific and easy to follow pre-operative instructions.
To minimize bruising, patients are advised to stop taking non-essential medications that thin blood; apply ice packs for at least two days after surgeries, and take supplements like bromelain and arnica. Patents are also advised not to drink and smoke.
When it comes to downtime and recovery, most patients fear that it is too long. Before you know it, 1 week after surgery, your splint comes off and you can return to daily activities soon after. Swelling decreases gradually and most of it goes away about 2 months after surgery.
