As much as people tote facial concerns as vanity, the surface of our face is a reflection of who we are - it’s our identity. Women are especially susceptible to the signs of aging - as collagen breaks down and gravity weighs heavy on the skin, the lines begin to grow deeper and the delicate skin droops over the sharp lines of the jawbone. Age impacts everyone’s skin differently though. This is why there are several variations of facelifts to target the unique aging concerns of each patient. Because there are so many forms of facelifts, it’s important to set up an initial consultation with a reputable and experienced surgeon who can analyze your skin’s maturity and determine the ideal procedure(s) to achieve your ideal result.
Full Facelift: A full facelift is typically one recommended for someone with advanced aging concerns. They may notice their cheeks have lost their volume, their nasolabial fold has deepened, the midface region droops and their jawline vanishes under the sagging skin along their jawline. The incision is a bit larger due to the in-depth nature of the surgery, thus the recovery process is a bit more extensive than other procedures. This not only involves tightening the neck and jawline by removing excess skin, but also involves resuspension of the muscle and possible fat transfer to restore volume to the cheeks.
Band Aid Facelift / Mini Facelift: A Band Aid facelift is a procedure that is ideal for someone showing early signs of aging in the lower portion of their face, or someone who has had a previous facelift and needs a touchup. The Band Aid facelift (mini facelift) addresses the neck and jawline areas, the lines around the mouth and the deepened smile lines (nasolabial folds). Because this surgery is not as extensive as a full facelift, the recovery time is shorter, the cost is cheaper and the incisions are small enough to be covered by Band Aids.
Brow Lift: If you see signs of aging in the upper portion of your face, a brow lift is the ideal procedure to remedy this. The brow lift / forehead lift targets the horizontal expression lines across the forehead, the drooping of the eyebrow arch, and the sagging of the upper eyelid. In order to achieve this, an incision typically is made along the hairline above the ears and around the forehead. Excess fat and skin are removed and the remainder of the skin is pulled taut in order to smooth lines in a natural-looking manner.
Eyelid Lift: Many patients pair eyelid surgery with other procedures in order to achieve the maximum results from the anti-aging treatments. Eyelid lifts specifically target the excess fat deposits stored in the upper and lower lids and smooths the crows feet around the corners of the eyes. It can also smooth the wrinkles under the eyes and improve the appearance of the brows. An eyelid lift is ideal for those who notice drooping of the upper eyelid, puffiness of the under eye, or wrinkles deepening around the eyes.
Liquid Facelift: A liquid lift is an ideal treatment for those with lighter signs of aging, who is not ready to go under the knife. A liquid facelift integrates various dermal fillers, such as Restylane and Dysport, to achieve a temporary, customizable result. The injectables are inserted into the areas of concern, instantly smoothing and plumping the region. Because dermal fillers are customizable, it’s easy to adjust the appearance to fully satisfy your ideal result. Because the liquid facelift is achieved through injectables, there is no downtime and very minor reactions at the injection sites. Redness and swelling are common, but typically subside within 24 hours. The liquid facelift can last anywhere from 6-12 months, depending on how quickly your body metabolizes the product. Many patients combine liquid facelifts and PRP (plasma-rich platelet) treatments to enhance the surface of their skin and create a youthful, healthy glow.
